A Pact Between History and Industry: The Restoration of the Tannery of Pompeii

UNIC – Italian Tanneries and Lineapelle are proud to present the publishing project “The Tannery of Pompeii – Regio I, Insula 5.”
A prestigious, large-format book that tells — through words and images — the story of the collaborative sponsorship project launched with the Pompeii Archaeological Park to restore and open to the public, as a widespread museum, the tannery discovered in 1873 within the excavations of the ancient city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Initiated in 2008, the agreement between UNIC, Lineapelle, and the Pompeii Archaeological Park required 15 years of in-depth, meticulous restoration work, leading to the reopening of the site in June 2023.
“The Tannery of Pompeii – Regio I, Insula 5” recounts, through an evocative narrative and photographic reportage, the entire story of the tannery — its discovery, restoration, and revival.
An exemplary restoration, unique in its kind, as a trade association — a group of private entities — did not merely fund the project but actively oversaw every stage of the process, year after year, until the public reopening in 2023, becoming its true guardian.
A genuine model for the business and cultural worlds alike.
An unmissable book that, through words and images, guides the reader on a journey into a publishing project demonstrating how investing in culture means investing in the future.
